YA/MIDDLE GRADE AUTHOR

Raised in Hawaii, James served in the Air Force as a Medic for 6 years before starting and selling two manufacturing companies. He now lives in Northwest Arkansas with his wife and 5 children.

After a near-fatal experience with COVID in 2021, including forty-five days on a ventilator in the ICU, multiple blood transfusions, several live-saving surgeries and later several vocal cord surgeries; his road to recovery was both mentally and physically challenging. James took to writing to help put the nightmare of COVID behind him.

He has published the YA book Hounds of War the award-winning Middle Grade series The Pacific Chronicles.

I grew up playing in bamboo forts built high above the tropical forest floor, swimming in lava tubes that turned the water black, and exploring munitions bunkers on Hickam Air Force Base. My Uncle taught me to surf at 8 years-old by standing me up with him on his long board mid-wave on the North Shore.

As a teenager, my friends and I roamed the shallow water mangroves of the Pearl Harbor canal getting footage of sharks, eels and sea urchins. At night when the tide was out and the moon was bright we would walk, run and fight on the seemingly limitless sand bar covered in a thin layer of ocean water just above our ankles.

These are the places from which I write.
